STANDARD TWO - INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
School executives will set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no-nonsense, accountable environment. The school executive must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.
2A. Focus on Learning & Teaching, Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
The school executive leads the discussion about standards for curriculum, instruction and assessment based on research and best practices in order to establish and achieve high expectations for students.
PLT Data Driven Dialogue Protocol
At Ligon, we are focused on effective and efficient PLT practices that can be utilized school-wide. During conversations within the admin team, we discussed that there was a need for a protocol that staff can use when analyzing various data that they compile as a PLT. We walked staff through the Data Driven Dialogue protocol by using low-risk data that impacted the entire school, tardies. We then modeled the protocol as a staff so everyone could have an idea of how it works. I created a one page documents that all staff members were given to easily reference during their PLT conversations throughout the year. |

2B. Focus on Instructional Time
The school executive creates processes and schedules which protect teachers from disruptions of instructional or preparation time.
Conn 2019-2020 Master Schedule
During the initial phase of my internship at Conn Elementary, we followed an instructional schedule that allowed teachers to work collaboratively during planning times and for teachers providing Special Education services to co-teach at a time where they could work with all students within the same grade level. With the focus on common planning time and Literacy and Math SPED service delivery, teachers were protected from disruptions and students leaving their classrooms during other subject areas. Using this schedule, grade levels were able to meet with all intervention specialists at the same time, during the day. PLT meetings were held each Tuesday morning, on a rotation where administrators and student support services were able to meet with each team to discuss further supports for students based on data discussions. |
